來自智利和哥倫比亞的同學要跟我學英文，我們相約一邊吃一邊講英文，這是他們預備的墨西哥餐。

April 17 2011, Palm Sunday. April 17 2011, more than a month after the devastating earthquake and tsunami that shocked Japan and the whole world, the Japanese people were still suffering; the homeless were still homeless; and the air still smelled of fear of after shocks and radiation leaks from Fukushima.

These questions are ringing in my ears: Was Jesus' death only for my personal salvation? What is the meaning of Easter to humanity and the whole creation? The questions get so loud that my ears ache.

A 102-year-old Japanese man in Fukushima killed himself. His family believed the prospect of evacuation might be the cause. He couldn't bear leaving his home.

Did Easter have any meaning to him?

Easter Concert

Yes, it's not yet Easter, but we had the concert anyway.

Great singing, friendly atmosphere, and wonderful venue. The last time I went to the Methodist Church was in 2003 when Jennifer and Kenneth got married. Yes, that's the time of SARS, a time when we wore surgical masks.

And I'm glad that it's also a charity event for the victims of earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Terrible. It's the second shooting in Alphen aan den Rijn, about 25km (15 miles) south-west of Amsterdam, in 2 weeks.

May the victims rest in peace.

No kidding in Dutch

The dutch phrase for "just kidding" is Geintje, which involves a gutteral sound in the "g".

Maybe I should refrain from kidding just to avoid that "g" sound. ^_^

Rolf brought along this statue to the morning chapel today.

He shared with us the history of TFS and how meaningfulness of this Jesus statue to him.

Quite some of us were worried that he would knock Jesus down while preaching.

Hallelujah, it’s your faith in Jesus that counts, not work.

Then your faith will save you.

Wright: (raises his hand and stands up) Wait a minute.


Pastor：(facing the congregation) Hallelujah, praise the Lord. Here we have a brother who loves Jesus so much that he can’t help but stand up.

(Then facing Wright) Thanks be to God. Dear Brother, do you know that now when God sees you, he sees you through Jesus Christ. And by having faith in Jesus, you are now called righteous.

Wright: Hi Pastor! My name is NT Wright. You know NT? It’s OT’s friend.


Pastor: Sure sure, dear brother. May I welcome you to the family of people who are called righteous by having faith in Jesus.

Wright: Pastor, I’m afraid that’s exactly where my questions lie.

Pastor: Dear brother, what are your questions? A compassionate and good pastor must answer the congregation’s questions.

Wright: First of all, I think that “justification by faith”, that great doctrine we have in the Protestant church, it’s not “our faith” but God’s faithfulness

Listen to what I, NT Wright, have to say on this topic:

“through the faithfulness of Jesus the Messiah, for the benefit of all who believe…from God’s faithfulness to human faithfulness, when God’s action in fulfilment of covenant is unveiled, it is because God is faithful to what has been promised; when it is received, it is received by that human faith that answers to the revelation of God in Jesus Christ, that human faith that is also faithfulness to the call of God in Jesus Christ.”

Pastor: Let me clarify what you are saying: Do you mean we are saved by God’s faithfulness and not because of (or by) our faith?

Wright: Bingo! You are clever than you look, pastor!!!!


Pastor: Oh, thanks for the compliment. But may I ask for your proof about this faithfulness thing?

Wright: Sure. Since we are in the class of Romans, let us ask Paul to read some of his letter to the Romans..

Paul: (Reads Romans 1:17) For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."

Wright: Paul is actually quoting from Habakkuk 2:4 which says “but the righteous will live by his faith”. And by “his faith”, it means God’s faithfulness or Christ’s faithfulness by which we are redeemed.

Pastor: Ok, I see your point, by I’m still not very convinced.

Perfect

Is it ok not to be perfect?

I went to SaSa yesterday hoping to get a bottle of toner that cost only $38. No luck. The salesperson recommended another brand to me, and said, "I hope you don't mind, but your skin is really dry."

Of course it's dry.

And suddenly I felt as if I was the personification of dead skin and excess skin oil. Suddenly, I felt as if I was an object.

So, is it ok not to have perfect skin? I won't die, right?

Not encouraged的事很多

Dunk shot is not encouraged.

Wearing slippers is not encouraged.

Walking around without sleeves is not encouraged.
